Building a Strong Foundation: How Natural Wellness Boosts Your Overall Health

Have you ever felt like you're doing everything "right" but still struggle with mood, weight, stress, sleep, digestion, or other aspects of your health? It can be frustrating when it feels like nothing is working. Often, we look for quick fixes without considering whether we're starting from a solid foundation of wellness.

Strengthening foundational wellness starts with understanding and supporting your basic elements of health, such as general health status, diet, sleep efficiency, and stress management. If these things are not addressed, some other solutions may not be as effective. We tend to reach for things like coffee, energy drinks, or even prescription medications to give us an energy boost or help us relax and sleep. While these can offer temporary relief, they don’t address the root cause.

A better approach might start with becoming more self-aware: How is our health foundation? What are we doing, eating, or drinking that could affect our mood, energy, or gut health? Are there nutrients or lifestyle habits we’re neglecting that might need supplementation? Just like a house if our foundation isn’t built properly, it effects every other part of the house. It may feel perfect for some time, but eventually the house will start having creeks, cracks and leaks to make it less desirable to live in. We can patch up the cracks but it won’t help us improve the situation if we aren’t addressing the main foundational issues.

Our bodies constantly adapt to changes in our lives, and poor lifestyle habits can add to our distress. For example, neglecting gut health can lead to higher stress levels, digestion issues, inflammation, or general discomfort. By focusing on improving gut health, many people notice improvements in multiple areas of their lives, from energy levels to mood stability. Over the years, the quality of our food has decreased, making it harder to get the vitamins and nutrients we need from our diet alone. This is where supplementation comes in. However, not all supplements are created equal, so it’s essential to do your research (I'll link to my favorites below).

For those dealing with anxiety, depression, or focus issues but unsure about trying therapy, I always recommend considering it. Therapy can be incredibly beneficial, and if you’re ready, I encourage you to take that step. But if you're still unsure or are already in therapy but not seeing the results you’d hoped for, foundational wellness might be the missing piece. Sometimes, by addressing basic health needs, other areas of life begin to improve naturally.

I prefer natural solutions when it comes to my health because they help reduce the toxic overload in, on, and around our bodies. We are already exposed to many chemicals in our environment that we cannot control, so minimizing the use of synthetic substances where we can be essential. This is why I partner with doTERRA, a company that offers natural solutions for everyday health concerns. Their products are safe, effective, and backed by science, which is why I trust them for myself, my clients, and my loved ones. The results can be transformative—don’t just take my word for it, try it for yourself. Whether you try it alone or with my guidance, I’m here to support you through your wellness journey.

In addition to natural solutions, another effective way to support your foundational wellness is by working with healthcare practitioners who focus on whole-body health. Functional medicine doctors are one option, as they look at how various symptoms and system in your body are connected. However, you might also consider consulting a naturopathic doctor.

Naturopathic doctors focus on treating the root causes of illness using a holistic approach. They emphasize prevention and self-healing by encouraging lifestyle changes, nutrition and natural therapies. Naturopaths are trained in both modern science and natural healing practices, giving you the best of both worlds when it comes to your health care.

Working with an ND can help you uncover underlying imbalances, such as nutritional deficiencies or chronic inflammation, that might be contributing to issues like low energy, digestive problems, or mood disturbances. Their goal is to create a customized treatment plan that supports your body’s natural health processes, often using herbal medicine, supplements, homeopathy, and lifestyle adjustments.

Ultimately, it’s not about where you start—it’s about taking that first step toward building a strong foundation for your wellness. Whether it's improving your diet, trying natural supplements, seeing a therapist, or working with a healthcare professional, every small change contributes to better health and a longer, more vibrant life.

It can sometimes be difficult to figure out where to start, you don’t have to do it alone.
